About Us

Pioneering the Future of Marine Technology

Elements Works is a leading marine technology company specializing in smart monitoring systems, artificial intelligence for ocean applications, and sustainable energy solutions. We transform how communities interact with their marine environments through cutting-edge innovation.

Who We Are

Founded in 2014 by Michele Grassi, Elements Works has evolved from wave energy pioneers to comprehensive marine technology innovators. We are part of the Elements Community, a network of innovators including Elements Works SRL and Mathclick SRL, united in developing state-of-the-art technology for sustainable development.

Based at the Technology Hub in Navacchio, Pisa, Italy, our team combines expertise in marine engineering, artificial intelligence, IoT systems, and edge computing to create solutions that make a real difference in communities worldwide.

Our Mission

To empower coastal, river, and lake communities with accessible, intelligent monitoring systems that enable sustainable development, environmental protection, and informed decision-making through advanced technology.

Our Technology Portfolio

netH2O Platform - Smart Marine Monitoring

The netH2O platform represents our flagship innovation in smart buoy technology. These autonomous monitoring systems deliver real-time data on:

  • Water quality parameters (chlorophyll-a, dissolved oxygen, salinity)
  • Temperature and current velocity
  • Environmental conditions for aquaculture and coastal management
  • Integration with satellite data and regional sensor networks

Our netH2O systems are deployed in strategic locations including the Gulf of Trieste, Capraia Island, and the Po River Delta, providing critical environmental data to research institutions and commercial operators.

Artificial Intelligence Models

We've developed specialized AI solutions for marine applications:

  • SPADE - Advanced predictive analytics for marine environments
  • NETWORKleak - Intelligent leak detection systems
  • AIM4WAVES - Wave prediction and analysis (PNRR funded, web interface launched)
  • AIFISH - Fish population monitoring and analysis (PNRR funded, completed 2024)

Wave Energy Systems

Our heritage in marine energy includes the development of the P50 Power Take Off system for the H24-50 wave energy converter. In 2018, we achieved a historic milestone by feeding the first wave-generated electricity from our Marina di Pisa installation into the Italian national grid for Enel Green Power.

Advanced Marine Services

We provide comprehensive marine engineering services with our fleet of specialized vessels and equipment including:

  • ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) operations
  • Differential GPS positioning systems
  • Precision hydrophone arrays
  • Umbilical and subsea cable systems
  • Custom marine installation solutions

Our Journey

2014-2015: Foundation and Wave Energy

Elements Works was founded to develop the H24 wave energy machine in collaboration with 40South Energy. We developed the P50 Power Take Off system and the Smart Mini Barge, a semi-automatic platform for installing and removing P50 systems from H24 machines. Our Marina di Pisa test site became operational, hosting the first H24-50 installation.

2017-2018: Expanding into Smart Monitoring

We began development of the netH2O personal smart buoy platform, recognizing the potential to bring advanced monitoring technology to all coastal communities. In 2018, we achieved the historic milestone of feeding wave-generated electricity into Italy's national grid.

2019-Present: AI and IoT Innovation

Focus shifted to comprehensive marine monitoring solutions combining IoT, edge computing, and artificial intelligence. Successful deployments in the Gulf of Trieste demonstrated the platform's ability to integrate near-real-time sensor data with satellite imagery and machine learning for aquaculture risk prediction. Expanded our AI portfolio with specialized models for waves, leak detection, and fish monitoring.

State-of-the-Art Technology Meets the Four Elements

An explosive combination that generates unique projects! Our multidisciplinary approach combines marine engineering, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and environmental science to create solutions that were previously impossible.

Looking Forward

As we continue to grow, our focus remains on making advanced marine technology accessible to communities worldwide. We're actively seeking partners and investors for our seed funding round to accelerate the commercial deployment of netH2O and our AI solutions.

Our vision extends beyond technology—we're building a sustainable ecosystem where innovation, community, and environmental stewardship come together to create lasting positive impact.
